Just one new case of dengue fever was confirmed Friday, bringing the total case count to 146, state health officials said.
Of the cases, 129 were Big Island residents and 17 were visitors, according to the Hawaii Department of Health. Thirty-two of the cases have been among children younger than 18. As of Friday, officials had excluded 556 potential cases.
Dengue fever is a virus that is transmitted or spread by infected mosquitoes and not directly from person to person.
