Hilo resident Crist Pung claimed the Big Island Ukulele Guild’s 11th Annual Stringed Instruments Exhibit People’s Choice Award.
Pung earned the accolade for his elaborately inlaid tenor ukulele that used a combination of shell, wood, gold and other metals and reconstituted stone to create stunning inlay designs. The second place People’s Choice winner was David Heaukulani, also of Hilo, for his tenor ukulele featuring honu designs. Kona resident Claudia Suen took third place for her tenor ukulele with hand-carved ornamentation.
The exhibit was featured during October at the Wailoa Center in Hilo. More than 1,250 people visited the exhibit during the month and voted for their favorite ukulele.
