A tropical depression is expected to form later this week several hundred miles off the coast of Mexico.
Widespread shower and thunderstorm activity associated with a low pressure system remained disorganized Thursday afternoon several hundred miles south-southwest of the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula, National Hurricane Center forecasters said Tuesday.
Environmental conditions are expected to foster tropical cyclone development during the comingdays as the system moves west-northwest. Forecasters gave the disturbance a 40 percent chance of becoming a tropical depression by Thursday.
In the Central Pacific, which is where Hawaii is located, no tropical cyclones are expected to form through Thursday afternoon, Central Pacific Hurricane Center forecasters said Tuesday. The Central Pacific basin covers an area west of 140 degrees west longitude to the international date line.
The Central Pacific and Eastern Pacific hurricane seasons continue through Nov. 30.
