Tropical Storm Olaf is expected to continue weakening far east-northeast of Hawaii, Central Pacific Hurricane Center forecasters reported Monday.
Olaf was located 1,165 miles east-northeast of the Big Island and circulating 60 mph winds as it tracked east at 22 mph Monday afternoon, forecasters said. The storm was expected to continue moving toward the east through Tuesday afternoon before turning toward the south.
Steady weakening is forecast over the next couple of days as Olaf encounters strong westerly wind shear and cooler waters. The storm is expected to be downgraded to a depressionTuesday evening. It should dissipate Wednesday afternoon.
Though Olaf continues to head away from the state, surf generated by the former Category 4 storm continues to impact east-facing shores of the Big Island, forecasters said. Wave heights of 6 to 10 feet are expected to continue through 6 p.m. Monday.
Elsewhere in the Central Pacific, as well as the Eastern Pacific, no tropical cyclones were expected to form through Wednesday evening.
The Central Pacific and Eastern Pacific hurricane seasons continue through Nov. 30.
