HONOLULU (AP) — City crews are planning to clear more sections of the large homeless encampment in Kakaako.
Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell announced the plan Friday.
The crews will remove tents and debris on Monday and Tuesday from areas between Keawe Street and Cooke Street, and along Ilalo Street and Ala Moana Boulevard.
City and state officials did not have an estimate of how many people would be affected.
Nearly 300 people were living in the camp in August. Outreach workers helped more than 50 people living on Kakaako streets to move into shelters since early last month. Crews began clearing the outskirts of the camp earlier this month.
Some people in the areas being cleared are just moving to other parts of the camp.
