Former Tropical Depression Jimena continues to move away from the Hawaiian Islands, Central Pacific Hurricane Center forecasters said Friday afternoon.
The area of low pressure was located about 375 miles northwest of Honolulu, forecasters said. Thunderstorms persist northeast of the center, but strong upper-level winds will continue to inhibit redevelopment of the system as it moves toward the west and northwest.
Showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms can be expected through Saturday because of a moist airmass over the state. Winds will be light and variable favoring a southeasterly direction. High pressure will be building in to the north early next week with a more typical trade wind weather pattern returning.
Elsewhere in the Central Pacific, which is where Hawaii is located, no tropical cyclones are expected to form through Sunday afternoon, forecasters said.
In the Eastern Pacific, no topical cyclones are expected to form during the coming five days, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.
