KEALAKEHE — Kealakehe boys soccer won under unique circumstances over Waiakea on Saturday afternoon at Waverider Stadium.
The ‘Riders moved the ball well in the first 40 minutes of game play, dominating possession in the Warriors’ territory. After generating a multitude of looks at the net, the hosts scored in the 20th minute.
However, a mechanical issue with the northern goalpost caused the match to be called at halftime, with Kealakehe being awarded the quick victory.
The Lady Waveriders and Warriors were slated to play immediately following the boys match, but due to the goalpost issues, that match was postponed to a later date. The make-up date is yet to be announced, per Kealakehe Athletic Director Stacy Jones.
The ‘Riders’ boys and girls’ next matchup will be on Jan. 4 against Hawaii Preparatory Academy at home. Waiakea’s boys and girls teams’ next match will also be against Ka Makani, but on Jan. 8 in Waimea.
