WAIMEA — Hawaii Preparatory Academy girls soccer got off to a hot start to the new season by beating the visiting Honoka‘a Lady Dragons on Tuesday at home.
Winning 4-1, Ka Makani was led by Zylee Moses with two goals, followed by teammates Skylar Johansen and Kela Quayle with one each. Honoka‘a’s lone scorer was Hailey Coelho.
HPA (1-0) will next host Kea‘au on Wednesday afternoon on its campus, while the Lady Dragons (0-1) host Hilo that same day in Honoka‘a town.
The boys teams from both schools also played that afternoon, winning 6-0.
Jaren Peltier led the way with a pair of goals, followed by Skye Raymond, Bodie Buczyna, Zach Montgomery and Duke Waiau with one apiece.
Ka Makani (1-0) will next play Kea‘au on Wednesday afternoon, while the Dragons (0-1) host Hilo that same day.
With HPA’s boys and girls teams both making the state tournament a year ago, the new season’s expectations remain the same.
Waiakea 8, Konawaena 0
BIIF Division I runner-up Waiakea girls soccer opened the 2024-25 season with an 8-0 rout of Konawaena on Tuesday at home.
Kalia Franklin and Ava Herr led the Lady Warriors with two goals apiece, followed by Penelope Conley-Ruth, Sayde Pamarang, Elina Salai and Charlie Silva with one each.
Now at 1-0, Waiakea will set its sights to Kamehameha Schools-Hawai‘i for Tuesday’s match at home. The Lady Wildcats (0-1) will host Ka‘u on Dec. 7 at Julian R. Yates Field.
