NFL owners OK Jags’ stadium renovation

NFL owners have given the go-ahead to the Jacksonville Jaguars’ planned $1.4 billion renovation of EverBank Stadium, its home field since 1995. The Jaguars intend to build the “Stadium of the Future,” with construction set to start in February and be finished before the 2028 season.

Clark named All-WNBA first team

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark was named to the All-WNBA first team on Wednesday, becoming the first rookie in 16 years to earn the honor. Clark joined Napheesa Collier, league MVP A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces, Breanna Stewart and Alyssa Thomas on the first team. Wilson and Collier, the 2024 Defensive Player of the Year, received unanimous first-team votes. It’s the sixth first-team honor and seventh overall for Stewart, also a two-time league MVP.

Williams: ‘All is OK’ after surgery

Tennis great Serena Williams is recovering from surgery to remove a large cyst on her neck. Williams, 43, posted the news to social media on Wednesday, saying she had a benign branchial cyst “the size of a small grapefruit” removed.

Adams to make debut vs. Steelers

Star wide receiver Davante Adams is expected to make his debut with the New York Jets in Sunday night’s game against the host Pittsburgh Steelers, interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich announced. Adams sat out the Raiders’ last three games due to a nagging hamstring injury.

Kings sign McDermott

The Sacramento Kings signed free agent sharpshooter Doug McDermott to a one-year deal on Wednesday, ESPN reported. McDermott, 32, takes the roster spot that opened up when the Kings traded Jalen McDaniels on Monday. The Kings are McDermott’s seventh NBA team.

Cortes tracking for World Series return

Left-hander Nestor Cortes is on track to rejoin the New York Yankees if they make it to the World Series. Cortes landed on the 15-day injured list on Sept. 25 with a flexor strain in his pitching elbow. He has not pitched in a game since Sept. 18.

Clark in pro-am pairing

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark’s foray into golf will include another young superstar athlete in Nelly Korda, Golfweek reported on Wednesday. Clark, the WNBA Rookie of the Year and All-WNBA first-team selection, had earlier this month committed to play in the pro-am competition at The Annika driven by Gainbridge on Nov. 13 at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Fla.

Jaguars missing ‘consistency’

Details and consistency are killing the Jacksonville Jaguars from the under-the-helmet vantage point of quarterback Trevor Lawrence. “Everyone being more consistent, including myself,” Lawrence said Wednesday afternoon in London.

Milestone victory for Paul

Tommy Paul won his career-best 42nd singles match on tour this season, as the fourth seed defeated Laslo Djere 6-2, 7-6 (2) on Wednesday at the BNP Paribas Nordic Open in Stockholm. Paul, who won this event in 2021, recorded seven aces and 27 winners and forced Serbia’s Djere to save nine of 12 break points as the American advanced to the quarterfinals.
