Honoka‘a 3, Kanu 0
Honoka‘a girls volleyball made quick work of Kanu o ka ‘Aina during Tuesday’s Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) Division II matchup inside the Dragons’ gymnasium — winning in straight sets. The hosts got back on track after falling to Hawaii Preparatory Academy last week.
Honoka‘a won by scores of 25-7, 25-29 and 25-13. The Dragons improved to 5-6, staying in the middle of BIIF DII’s standings (as of late Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 9). Kanu dropped to 2-11, and sits near the cellar of the DII standings.
With just a few matches remaining in the regular season slate, Honoka‘a will next host DI powerhouse Konawaena at 5 p.m. Friday in Honoka‘a town. Junior varsity will play first at 5 p.m. The Dragons also hosted Makua Lani Christian Academy on their home floor late Wednesday night — see Friday’s paper to read results.
Kanu will next drive south to face Kona at 5 p.m. tonight inside Ellison Onizuka Gymnasium.

Waiakea girls volleyball posted its ninth straight-sets victory of the season Tuesday with a 3-0 win over Ka Umeke in Hilo town — 25-10, 25-14 and 25-8. The Warriors have now won three consecutive after the team suffered back to back losses on Sept. 25 and 27 and Kamehameha Schools-Hawai‘i and Hilo.
Waiakea is now at 10-3 on the season, sitting in fourth overall in BIIF DI. The Warriors will hit the road tonight to face Laupahoehoe at 6 p.m. on the Hamakua Coast.
Ka Umeke is still winless at 0-12. They’ll next host Kea‘au at 5 p.m. in Hilo.
