Verizon Wireless in Lanihau Shopping Center, 75-5595 Palani Road, is offering classes for smartphone users.
Android: Getting Started will cover the basics of the device and review hardware functions. Attendees will learn how to set up email, add social network accounts, master features and customize the device. This class is offered from 8 to 9 a.m. Saturday, from 9 to 10 a.m. Sunday, from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. July 20, 8 to 9 a.m. July 26 and 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. July 27.
Apple iPhone: Getting Started covers features such as maps, Siri, FaceTime and the app store. This class will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Monday, 8 to 9 a.m. July 18, 9 to 10 a.m. July 19 and 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. July 27.

Scholarships available for
low-income students
QuestBridge has launched the 2015 National College Match, connecting high-achieving, low-income high school students with full scholarships at select colleges and universities.
QuestBridge is a nonprofit program that works with 36 partner colleges, all of which are committed to making college affordable for all students.
To apply, high school seniors should carefully review QuestBridge’s selection criteria to see if they might qualify. The online application requires detailed academic, extracurricular, personal and financial information, as well as two teacher recommendations, a secondary school report, transcripts and test scores. The application also requires two essays and completion of short answer questions.
The deadline is 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time Sept. 28. QuestBridge will select finalists by late October. Applicants will be notified of their status through their online QuestBridge account and National College Match recipients will be announced in December.

Kona Interfaith Meditation
Society meets
The Kona Interfaith Meditation Society will hold its next meeting at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Hawaiian Queen Coffee Garden, 75-1048 Henry St.
The program will include a video drawn from a CBS series on “Modern Masters of Religion.” In this edition the lives and messages of Thomas Merton from the Christian tradition, the 16th Karmapa from the Buddhist tradition and interfaith scholar Karen Armstrong are briefly discussed.
The program includes a period of sitting in silence, discussion and refreshments. All are welcome.

Kealakehe High sets schedule pick up
Kealakehe High School’s incoming ninth grade students are invited to pick up their schedules and attend a freshman orientation.
The schedule pick up is slated from 7 to 11 a.m. July 14 and 3 to 7 p.m. July 15 in the school’s administration office. Student fees, bus application and payment and lunch payment will be accepted. Applications for free and reduced meals and athletics information will be available.
Freshmen orientation will be held from 5:30 to 6 p.m. July 15 in the school cafeteria.
