The Blue Sea Artisans Gallery featured artist for the month of November is multi-media artist Sue Mailander.
Sue Mailander’s unique works are a collaboration of mediums combined in one; vibrantly colorful semi abstract acrylic painting, woodblock printing, textiles and sashiko are collaged to interpret her pleasure in Hawaii’s tropical foliage and sea life.
Mailander has been a well known artist on Hawaii’s Big Island for over three decades. She is a founding member of the Blue Sea Artisans of Kona in 2009. She was a twenty year member of the Kailua Village Artists Gallery and is founder of the Pacific Island Printmakers.
She says “My toolbox includes acrylic paints, exotic printing and painting surfaces, brushes, carving gouges, oil base printing ink rollers, my 36 inch press, sharpening tools, a room for supplies and a garage wall of carving boards, a bookshelf of art books and the dining room table.”
On November 3, 2023 the Blue Sea Artisans Gallery will be celebrating their 7th Anniversary celebration at the Keauhou Shopping center and is inviting the public to join the artists, enjoy pupus and refreshments from 5 p.m to 7 p.m. There will be door prizes and specials throughout the gallery.
