A South Kona man will spend a year behind bars in connection with the 2014 shooting death of a 52-year-old Honaunau resident.
Monte Moreau was sentenced on May 14 by 3rd Circuit Court Judge Ronald Ibarra to 24 months of incarceration with all but one year suspended in connection with the July 2014 shooting death of Todd Shaver. He must also perform 200 hours of community service and pay restitution of $163,661.59 to the state Department of Human Services and $1,609.56 to Janet Shaver, according to court records.
Moreau was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Shaver on July 3, 2014, following an incident at a Honaunau house where both of them lived, but in separate apartments. Shaver was shot in the abdomen and died July 26, 2014.
In March, Moreau pleaded no contest to a lesser charge of manslaughter.
