Nareit Foundation Seeks Grant Applicants to Support Nonprofit Affordable Housing Programs
The Nareit Foundation, a Section 501(c)(3)organization, is inviting Hawaii nonprofits to submit applications seeking grants in support of affordable housing programs. The deadline for submitting grant applications is June 29, 2023, at 2:00 p.m.
Grants will be awarded this year through the Foundation’s Nareit Hawaii Community Giving Initiative. Funding for the grants is provided by donations from REITs operating in Hawaii. Since establishing the Nareit Hawaii Community Giving Initiative in November 2018, the Foundation has awarded nearly $1.8 million in grants to support nonprofit affordable housing programs on Kauai,Maui, Molokai, Hawaii Island, and Oahu.
Nareit Hawaii Executive Director Gladys Quinto Marrone explains, “We are grateful for the efforts being made by nonprofits to provide more opportunities for safe and secure affordable housing. These Nareit Foundation grants will help achieve that goal and we encourage nonprofits to submit their applications.”
Grant applicants should be implementing projects that provide affordable housing for sale or rent. Grant funds are not intended for planning. Organizations with “shovel-ready” projects or needing to make land purchases for such projects will receive priority. All applicants must fill out the grant application form that can also be accessed from the home page of the Nareit Hawaii website. Nareit Hawaii represents the interests of REITs in Hawaii and their participation in civic, community, and policy initiatives to benefit residents statewide, while also supporting community and charitable organizations that address social issues of importance. REITs are long-term property holders that own, renovate and manage affordable housing projects, commercial buildings, medical facilities, shopping centers, cell phone towers, public storage facilities, and hotels in Hawaii.
