LIHUE — The HHSAA Girls Golf Championship concluded on Wednesday, which was its second day of competition at Wailua Golf Course on Kauai.
Punahou High School’s Raya Nakao placed first — shooting 69 to win the first round and carding 70 in the second for a 139 total gross and a -5 to-par gross. The runner-up was Ava Cepeda (-2, 73, 69, 142) of Kahuku High School, who won the second round.
Hawaii Prep’s Isabella Rodriguez was the Big Island’s top placer in the state championship. The BIIF Champion placed No. 20, shooting 83 in the first round and 81 in the second to gross 164 total and +20 to par.
Placing No. 32 was Lauren Kozohara of Hilo High School, who shot 89 and 86 to total 175 — carding a to-par gross of 175.
Rodriguez’s teammate, Nina An (+43, 94, 93, 187), placed No. 46.
Hilo’s Mika Holi (+44, 97, 91, 188) and Waiakea High School’s Ava Herr (+45, 101, 88, 189) placed No. 48 and No. 49, respectively.
The Vikings’ Kierstin Ramos (+56, 96, 104, 200) finished in No. 56.
Five other BIIF golfers placed No. 61 through No. 65, respectively — HPA’s Ella Forrest (+68, 109, 103, 212), Waiakea’s Kiara Kimata (+68, 109, 103, 212), Adrianna Volpe (+69, 108, 105, 213) of Kamehameha Schools – Hawaii, and Hilo’s Zoe Kaneshiro (+69, 102, 111, 213) and Christina Jung (+96, 129, 111, 240).
Of the eleven teams in the championship, Hilo (+131, 282, 281, 563) placed tenth — edging HPA (+131, 286, 277, 563), which placed No. 11.
Kalani High School placed first, grossing 229 in the first round and 226 in the second for 455 total and +23 to-par.
The boys’ championship will begin at 7 a.m. today, also at Wailua.
