Iolani High School defeated Konawaena High School late Friday for the Hawaii High School Athletic Association’s Division I girls basketball state title.
The Raiders outscored the Wildcats by 21 for the 59-38 win in the championship matchup at Stan Sheriff Center on Oahu, a rematch of the 2022 title matchup in which Iolani topped 28-17.
Konawaena never held the lead after the first quarter, which ended with No. 2 Konawaena and No. 1 Iolani tied at 12 each. In the second quarter, Iolani scored 11 unanswered points before Konawaena added a point to the board. At half, the Raiders led the Wildcats by 13 at 32-19.
In the third quarter, Iolani at one point led by 17 points, but Konawaena pulled back late to cut the lead to 11 points, making it a 40-29 game entering the fourth quarter and final 8 minutes of play.
Konawaena, despite a valiant effort that brought them within eight points, was unable to overcome the deficit in the fourth quarter.
