The Donkey Mill Arts Center presents its 16th annual art auction, “Splash!,” opening Saturday, Feb. 4.
This exhibition and auction event celebrates over 90 works by emerging and established artists from Hawaii and beyond in the nonprofit’s largest fundraiser of the year. Each artwork represents a relationship between the artist and the center — all who have made a “splash” at the Donkey Mill as teaching artists, donors, members, staff and students over the course of our 28-year history.
This year’s theme, “Splash!,” emerged through reflection of last year’s auction theme “Convergence.” Following this gathering of people, perspectives and stories, this year the center recognizes the resounding influence art can have on the self, the community and world. From the impact of the teaching artists leading classes at the center, to those teaching hundreds of students in local elementary schools, to fostering cultural exchange and dialogue through a robust program of visiting artists, each of these interactions — small and large — creates a splash and makes a wave.
With a wide range of price points, the center hope the community can find something that resonates with them as winning bids directly support the nonprofit’s year-round arts programming and the continued momentum of the 2021-23 Strategic Plan.
The exhibit will run Saturday, Feb. 4, through Feb. 25 with guidated curator tours slated at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11,with curator Mina Elison. Space is limited for this intimate experience, registration is required.
