HONOLULU — Honolulu’s Neal Blaisdell Center may start looking more like the war memorial it started out as with the city’s adoption of a resolution asking the administration to install three plaques.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports Oregon wildlife biologist Tanya Harrison was researching her family’s history in Kakaako when she discovered paperwork on a forgotten 1964 plaque dedicating the memorial, and she’s asking the city to keep that in mind as it plans improvements at the Blaisdell.
City spokesman Jesse Broder Van Dyke said in an email that a replica of the original plaque is being considered as a separate endeavor from restoration efforts at the 51-year-old center.
Honolulu Councilwoman Ann Kobayashi signed the March resolution asking for the three plaques, and said the island has so many veterans of different wars that it should continue to honor them.
