Richard Gouveia
Richard Martins Gouveia, 88, of Kailua-Kona, died May 23, 2022, at his residence. Born July 8, 1933, in Kealakekua, he was a pipe fitter for the Department of Water Supply, owner of Koa by R.G. Creations, coffee farmer and a construction worker, and U.S. Marine Corps. veteran.
Friends may call at 9:30 a.m. June 18 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Kailua-Kona; Mass will begin at 10 a.m. Casual attire, no flowers.
He is survived by wife, Fanny Gouveia; daughter, Richa Chang; brother, George Gouveia, all of Kailua-Kona; sister, Rita Gouveia and sister-in-law, Sally Gouveia, both of Holualoa; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one nephew; and numerous cousins; nieces, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Ashton Martines
Ashton Kaleianuenue Martines, 31, of Kailua-Kona, died May 5, 2022 at Hilo Medical Center. Born Aug. 6, 1990, in Hilo, he was a sales associate at Office Max, cabin appearance agent at U.S. Aviation, truck driver for Pacific Waste and sales associate at Home Depot.
Friends may call at 9 a.m. June 10 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo. Funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. The family requests casual attire.
He is survived by son, Taven Kalavi-Martines of Holualoa; mother, Sharon Martines of Kailua-Kona; brothers, Patrick (Claylyn) Martines of Hilo, Jason (Tabitha) Martines of Ocean View and Berenten Cachero of Hilo; sisters, Roberta (Gary) Martinez of Milolii, Marilyn (Daniel) Pakele of Hilo, Ashley (Whendy) Stephens of Kailua-Kona, and Ashlyn (Mark) Martines of Hilo; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Leonard Shim Sr.
Leonard Kim Fan Shim Sr., 92, of North Kohala, died May 10, 2022, at his residence. Born July 25, 1929, in Makapala, North Kohala, he worked at Kohala Sugar Co., retired from the Army National Guard, was employed as a fuel distribution systems worker at Pohakuloa Training Area, Bradshaw Army Airfield, Sacred Heart Church Choir Director, Lions Club President and avid steward for his local community.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. June 17 at the Shim residence; 53-4152 Akoni Pule Highway, Hala’ula, Kohala for visitation. Friends may also call at 8:45 a.m. June 18, 2022 at Sacred Heart Church in Hawi for a 10 a.m. service to be followed by burial at the church cemetery.
He is survived by sons, Leonard Shim Jr. and Kenneth of Kohala; daughters, Barbara (Glenn) Kossow of Kailua-Kona, Bette (John) Brumlow and Laure (Joey) Gomera of Kohala; brother, Roland Shim of Kaneohe, Oahu, sister, Florence Heu of Kaneohe, Oahu; seven grandchildren, 18 great-grand-children; one great-great grandchild; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
