Lolita Valdez Ilar, 94, of Hilo, died Oct. 14, 2021 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born Jan. 17, 1927 in Batac, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, she was a teacher and housewife.
Friends may call at 4 p.m. Dec. 17 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 6 p.m. service. Friends may also call at 9 a.m. Dec. 18 at the mortuary for a 10:30 a.m. service; burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park, Ilima Section. Casual attire.
She is survived by son, Dairill (Emelyn Agbigay Ilar) Ilar; and granddaughter, Jeraldine Ilar.

Eleanor Evangelista
Eleanor “Ele” Kuluwaimakaokalani Evangelista, 87, of Keaau, died Nov. 7, 2021 at Hilo Medical Center. Born March 7, 1934 in Puna, she was a retired meat wrapper for Puna Fresh Foods, former cafeteria helper for Keaau Elementary School, composer of Hawaiian songs, and member of Kamauloa O Ka Malamalama Hoomana Naauao Church and the Alu Like Kupuna Program.
Friends may call at 9 a.m. Dec. 17 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 10 a.m. service; burial to follow at Alae Cemetery. Casual attire.
She is survived by daughters, Sandy Yamaguchi, Emmalyn Evangelista and Heather (Christian) Kubo; sons, Henry Evangelista and Herbert (Maelisa) Evangelista; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ernest Sasaki
Ernest Junji Sasaki, 84, of Pepeekeo, died Oct. 24, 2021, at the St. Francis Hospice on Oahu. Born in Pepeekeo, he worked in the construction industry for M. Sonomura Contracting Co., Jas. W. Glover, Goodfellow Brothers, and Isemoto Contracting Co., Ltd., and was a member of the Wainaku Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

He is survived by wife, Katherine Sasaki of Pepeekeo; sons, Daniel (Carey) Sasaki of Honolulu and Paul Sasaki of Las Vegas; adoptive brother, Michael (Gayle) Sasaki of Hilo; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Aiko Ichishita
Aiko Ichishita, 95, of Kalaoa, died Dec. 4, 2021 at her residence. Born Oct. 5, 1926, in Keopu, she was a retired co-owner of Kona Laundry and member of Keopu Citizens Club, Kona Utano Kai, Senior Karaoke Club, Seicho-no-ie, Kona Rotary, Buddhist Fujin Kai and Kona Hongwanji Buddhist Temple.

She is survived by husband, Wally Ichishita of Kalaoa; sons, Reed (Gloria) Ichishita of Kealakekua, and Shayne (Joyce) Ichishita, Kevin Ichishita, Wynn Ichishita and Jeffrey Ichishita, all of Kalaoa; daughter, Marie (Alan) Nakata of Honolulu; sister, Rose Onaka of Kalaoa; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great -great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Dennis Michael Silva, 70, of Hilo, died Nov. 27, 2021. Born in Hilo, he retired from Hawaii County Parks and Recreation Division.
