Six new COVID-19 cases were reported Tuesday on the Big Island, bringing the total case count to 10,498 since late February 2020.
Statewide, 49 new cases were reported by health officials on Tuesday, bringing the statewide case count to 81,663, according to the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency.
According to HI-EMA, 2,834 new cases have been reported in Hawaii in the past 14 days, including 569 on the Big Island. There has been an average of 161.9 new cases the past seven days statewide with the Big Island averaging 32.6 cases per day.
Hawaii County’s seven-day test positivity rate dropped to 4.5% Tuesday but remained above the state’s 2.7% positivity rate.
On Tuesday, 13 people with COVID-19 were hospitalized on the Big Island. Three of the island’s 24 ICU beds were available with six of the beds occupied by COVID-positive patients. Three of the COVID-positive patients were on a ventilator.
No new coronavirus-related deaths were reported by the state on Tuesday. Of the 845 deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 635 were on Oahu, 92 were on Maui, 105 were on the Big Island and eight on Kauai. Five deaths were among residents outside the state.
Meanwhile Tuesday, the state reported 65% of Big Island residents — or more than 130,350 people — were fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Some 77% has received at least one dose.
Statewide, 69.6% of the population was fully vaccinated.
According to the Department of Health, more than 2.08 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Hawaii, including more than 46,000 booster doses. Some 106,800 eligible individuals have yet to be vaccinated.
