DOH reports 625 new COVID-19 cases, including 100 on the Big Island

Statewide, 625 new cases were reported Wednesday, bringing the state’s total to 57,747 since late February 2020, according to the Department of Health.
Hawaii County on Wednesday still had a seven-day test positivity rate of 8.4%, just above the state’s 8.3% positivity rate.
According to the DOH, 9,633 new cases have been reported in Hawaii in the past 14 days, including 1,698 on the Big Island. There has been an average of 687.4 new cases the past seven days statewide with the Big Island averaging 130.6 cases per day.
The island’s two most populous areas, Kailua-Kona and Hilo, have reported the most cases during the past 14 days at 381 and 489 cases, respectively. Meanwhile, Waikoloa and Waimea in South Kohala have reported 75 and 109 cases, respectively. Captain Cook and Honaunau have reported 69 cases in the past two weeks.
On Wendesday, 67 people with COVID-19 were hospitalized on the Big Island, up five from Monday. Four of the island’s 24 ICU beds were available with 12 of the beds occupied by COVID-positive patients. Ten of those 12 COVID patients are on ventilators.
Eight new coronavirus-related deaths were reported Wednesday; one was on Maui and seven were on Oahu.Of the 573 deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 441 were on Oahu, 67 were on Maui, 59 were on the Big Island and three on Kauai. Three deaths were among residents outside the state.
