Pilar Ucol
Pilar “Pi” Llantero Ucol, 82, of Keaau, died July 14, 2021, at his residence. Born Oct. 6, 1938, Sarrat, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, she worked for Diamond Head Papaya Co.
Friends may call at 4:30 p.m. July 25 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 6 p.m. service. Friends may also call at 10 a.m. July 26 at Homelani Memorial Park (Ilima Section) for a graveside service.
She is survived by sons, Fermiliano (Jocelyn) Ucol of Keaau and Ermin (Estrella) Ucol of Texas; daughters, Kathleen (Al) Umayas and Angelita Ucol Diaz of Keaau; brother, James Llantero of California; sisters, Visitacion (Clemente) Manibog of Oahu and Emerenciana (Andres) Tamayo of Hilo; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sue Kojima
Sue Someko Kojima, 91, of Hilo, died May 6, 2021, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Hilo, she was a retired shipping clerk for the former Hawaiian Equipment and a member of the Hilo Church of the Nazarene.
Friends may call at 9:30 a.m. July 27 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for visitation; private service to follow. Casual attire. Family requests no flowers and no koden (monetary gifts).
She is survived by daughter, Lorraine (Christopher) Martin of Redwood City, California; brother, Yoshio (Marcia) Obasa of Kurtistown; sisters, Sueko Saito of Honolulu and Yoshie (Abel) Wakida and Masue Yogi, all of Hilo; and a granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Patrick Lawrence
Patrick John Lawrence, 69, of Honomu, died July 11, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center. Born July 27, 1951, in Hilo, he was the proprietor/owner of P. Lawrence Contracting, Hawaii Army National Guard veteran and member of KIAA, Hawaii Transportation Association and the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Honomu.
Friends may call at 9 a.m. July 28 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 10:30 a.m. service. Burial at Homelani Memorial Park at noon.
He is survived by wife, Phyllis Lawrence of Honomu; son, Patrick (Renee) Lawrence Jr. of Honomu; daughter, Priscilla Lawrence of Pepeekeo; two grandchildren; brothers, Everett Lawrence of West Virginia and Frank (Claudia) Lawrence of Mountain View; sister, Kathleen Ke of Pahala; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Bernard Soares-Teves
Bernard “Bud” Philip Soares-Teves, 66, of Waikoloa and formerly of Manoa, Oahu, died on June 21, 2021, at his residence. Born March 21, 1955 in Honolulu, he was retired from Oahu Transit Services and was a bus driver for Kamehameha Schools, Kapalama Campus.
Friends may call at 10 a.m. July 28 at Diamond Head Memorial Park Chapel on Oahu for a 10:30 a.m. service followed by a celebration of life. Casual/aloha attire, flowers welcome. A scattering of ashes will be held at a later date.
He is survived by wife, Ethelynne Soares-Teves of Waikoloa; daughter, Asia (Viven Costello) Kaui Teves of Honolulu; step-sons, Keoni Boynton of Los Angeles, and Kapono Boynton of Okinawa, Japan; hanai son, Bronson (Jo Ann) Tamura of Honolulu; brothers, Glenn (Jane) Teves of Molokai, Neil (Myra) Teves of Waialua, Oahu, and Eugene Teves and Jeffrey Teves, both of Manoa, Oahu; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; a hanai granddaughter; and nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Veronica Maile (Kapahua/Kamelamela) Magno, 77, of Hilo, died June 18, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Dec. 10, 1943, in Hilo, she was a retired reservation supervisor for the Naniloa Hotel, cashier for Da Store in Hilo and member of New Hope Hilo.

Arnold Akau Sr., 68, of Waimea, died June 13, 2021, at his residence. He was a retired business owner and welder/foreman for Parker Ranch.

Candy Alvarado, 59, of Pahoa, died July 6, 2021, at her residence. Born on Oahu, she was a retired school health aide at Connections Public Charter School in Hilo.

Jeffrey John Pavao, 58, of Hilo, died July 10, 2021, at The Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu. Born in Hilo, he was a greens keeper.

Timothy Watters
Timothy Martin Carl Watters, 74, of Captain Cook, died June 3, 2021, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Oct. 3, 1946, in San Diego, he was an electrician, a member of Bible First Mission Church and a U.S. Navy veteran.

He is survived by wife, Victoria Watters of Captain Cook; sons, Josh Watters and Jake Watters of Colorado; daughter, Tabitha Polley of Colorado; stepdaughters, Wendy Van Houten of Captain Cook and Dawn Pecor of Oregon; stepson, Jim Ford of Virginia; six grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and one niece and one nephew.
