No new COVID-19 cases were reported Monday on the Big Island, leaving the island’s total case count to 2,216.
The new Big Island cases were among 35 new cases reported across the state by the Department of Health. Oahu reported 25 new cases while Maui County reported eight and Kauai zero. Two residents were diagnosed while outside the state.
Statewide, to date, there have been 26,889 people who have tested positive for COVID-19.
The Big Island on Monday had a 0.5% test positivity rate, below the statewide rate of 1%.
Over the past two weeks, the Big Island has reported 45 cases or an average of 2.6 cases per day. The North Kona area reported about a third of those cases.
Statewide, 45 people were hospitalized Monday, none of whom were receiving care on the Big Island. To date, 2,149 people have required hospitalization, including 114 on the Big Island.
One new coronavirus-related death was reported Monday by the state. Of the 426 coronavirus-related deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 339 were on Oahu, 29 were on Maui, 53 were on the Big Island and one on Kauai. Three deaths were among residents outside the state.
The Big Island’s COVID-19 fatality rate remained at 2.4% on Monday, above the statewide rate of 1.6%.
