Chevan Cordeiro threw his first touchdown pass of the season in the second quarter to Nick Mardner. Cordeiro ultimately accounted for a total of five scores on the night – four through the air and one on the ground – to lead Hawaii to a 39-33 victory. After posting a combined total of 357 passing yards in Hawaii’s first two games, Cordeiro racked up 410 yards through the air against the Lobos, connecting on 33 of his 43 attempts.
Mardner, Calvin Turner and Zion Bowens (twice) were on the receiving end of Cordeiro’s touchdown passes.
The game was new head coach Todd Graham’s first at Aloha Stadium after the Warriors opened their season with games at Fresno State and Wyoming.
Saturday’s game marked the sixth consecutive year Hawaii has won their home opener, extending a streak that dates back to 2015. Due to COVID-19 regulations, no fans were in the stadium.
