Hawaii Island police arrested 20 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant between March 9 and Sunday. Three of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.
Kona police arrested six drivers, South Hilo nabbed eight motorists, Puna police arrested three drivers and South Kohala officers arrested three drivers.
So far this year, there have been 200 DUI arrests compared with 271 during the same period last year, a decrease of 26.2 percent.
There have been 287 major accidents so far this year compared with 352 during the same period last year, a decrease of 18.5 percent.
So far this year, there have been five traffic fatalities on Hawaii Island compared with three during the same period last year, an increase of 66.7 percent.
To date, two fatalities were related to drugs, according to police.
