State health officials reported Wednesday a dozen new cases of COVID-19 on Hawaii Island, bringing the island’s total case count to 533.
The 12 Hawaii Island cases were among 100 new cases reported by the state Department of Health. The remaining 88 cases were on Oahu bringing the statewide tally to 10,023 since Feb. 28. Maui and Kauai counties saw their case counts hold steady at 360 and 58 as did the number of residents who have tested positive while out of the state at 26.
Of the 10,023 known cases identified in Hawaii to date, some 6,533 of those cases are still considered active. That includes 296 of the known cases on Hawaii Island.
Statewide, 604 COVID-19 patients have required hospitalization, including 21 on Hawaii Island, according to the center’s noon update.
The center also reported three new coronavirus-related deaths, all on Oahu. Two were between the ages of 60 and 69 and the third was between the ages of 70 and 79.
Of the 91 deaths reported among Hawaii residents, 78 were on Oahu, nine were on Maui, three were on Hawaii Island, and one was a Kauai resident receiving treatment in Arizona at the time he died.
Meanwhile, Avalon Healthcare, managing company of Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home in Hilo, reported a tenth death on at the care facility. The death reportedly occurred late Tuesday.
A total of 63 residents and 22 employees had tested positive for COVID-19, according to the Wednesday afternoon update.
Three residents were hospitalized at Hilo Medical Center while an additional 36 were being cared for in the care facility’s designated area. As of Wednesday afternoon, 14 residents and two employees have recovered.
The state said Wednesday is has yet to include the last seven Hawaii Island deaths reported by Avalon Healthcare as it is awaiting medical records from the facility.
