Pacita Salazar “Pat” Salomon, 75, of Ookala died Dec. 3, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born May 10, 1939, in Honoka, she was a retired housekeeper for the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and member of the ILWU.
Friends may call at 6 p.m. Dec. 17 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 7 p.m. wake service. Friends may also call at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 18 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo for a 10:30 a.m. Mass. Burial is at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Family requests casual attire be worn. Flowers are welcome.
She is survived by husband, Kirino Salomon of Ookala; sons, Chris (Vanessa) Salomon of Hilo, Dexter (Sheila) Salomon of Maui; daughters, Judy Salomon-Enocencio and Renee (Lawrence) Salomon, both of Hilo, Karen Salomon of Illinois; sisters, Sue Agor and Crescencia (Chris) Ganutan, both of Honolulu, Carmen Sanchez and Carol Vinluan, both of Honokaa; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Norman Verbanic Jr., 56, of Kurtistown died Dec. 12, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Buffalo, N.Y., he was a technical manager at Hawaii Electric Light Co., member of St. Theresa Parish at Holy Rosary Mission Church and Navy veteran.
Friends may call at 10 a.m. Dec. 17 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Keaau for an 11 a.m. Mass Cremation follows. Family requests casual attire be worn.
He is survived by wife, Dolores Verbanic of Kurtistown; son, Stanley Verbanic of Kurtistown; daughter, Hannah Verbanic of Kurtistown; parents, Norman and Eleanor Verbanic Sr. of Buffalo, N.Y.; brother, Nicholas (Laura) Verbanic of Buffalo, N.Y.; sister, Jean (Randy) Esposito of Cleveland; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Elizabeth “Girlie” Kalani Kauliakamoa Kelii Hoomanawanui, 82, of Hilo died Dec. 4, 2014, at home. Born in Kilauea, Kauai, she was a retired crossing guard at the Chiefess Kapiolani School, self-employed groundskeeper at Hilo Shopping Center and member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Kilauea Ward, its Relief Society, Lanakila Church of Kainaliu-Kona, Kuhio Chapel of Keaukaha, Olaa 1st Hawaiian Congregational Church and the Puna Ka‘u Council Choir.
Friends may call at 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 18 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for visitation. Friends may also call at 8 a.m. Dec. 19 at the Ponahawai Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for a 10 a.m. service. Burial follows at Homelani Memorial Park. Arthur “Art” Valentine Hollinger Jr., 84 of Laupahoehoe died Nov. 12, 2014, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born July 18, 1930, in San Pedro, Calif., he was a retired salesman and engineer for Chevron U.S.A., Air Force veteran and member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Laupahoehoe.
Friends may call at 9 a.m. Dec. 19 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Kailua, Oahu, for a 10:45 a.m. Mass. Urn burial follows at 12:45 p.m. at Diamond Head Memorial Park. Family requests casual attire be worn. Lei are welcome.

Yoshie Iwahashi, 91, of Pepeekeo died Dec. 5, 2014, at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born July 20, 1923, in Papaikou, she was a retired seamstress and member of Honomu Hongwanji Buddhist Temple.

Joseph “Joe” Perreira Jr., 58, of Hilo died Nov. 30, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born April 11, 1956, in Honokaa, he was a Marine Corps veteran.
