Hawaii County has acquired a large tract of land at Ooma in North Kona as part of its Public Access, Open Space and Natural Resources Preservation program.
The county on Dec. 31 closed the $6.2 million purchase of the 217-acre shoreline parcel situated between the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority and Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park.
Since 2008, the county has purchased 1,247 acres to preserve shorelines and open space.
