Hisashi Matsuoka
Hisashi “Sausage” Matsuoka, 97, of Hilo, died July 16, 2019, at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born April 30, 1922, in Hilo, he was a retired harbor police for the state Harbors Division, U.S Army World War II veteran and member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin.
Friends may call at 3 p.m. Aug. 11, at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 4 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn.
Survived by wife, Emiko Matsuoka of Hilo; son, Glenn (Joan) Matsuoka of Honolulu; daughter, Glendene (Mike) Otake of Hilo; numerous nieces and nephews.

Albert Nakano
Albert Akio Nakano, 86, of Fort Worth, Texas, and formerly of Waiohinu, died Oct. 8, 2011, in Texas. Born in Keauhou, he was a retired safety coordinator for the County of Hawaii, owner of the former Nakano Orchids and a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. Friends may call 9-10 a.m., Aug. 10, at the Naalehu Hongwanji Mission. A memorial service will begin at 10. Casual attire.
Survived by daughters, Kathleen (Mel) Avenue of Pearl City, Alberta (Joseph) Cox of Fort Worth, Texas; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, numerous nieces and nephews.

Joyce Sanayo Nakano, 94, of Fort Worth, Texas, and formerly Waiohinu died May 11, 2019, in Texas. Born in Hilo, she was a homemaker and owner of the former Nakano Orchids.

Harold Kama
Harold Nāpualani Ka’aumoana Kama Sr., 69, of Hilo, died July 19 at the Hilo Medical Center. He was born in Hilo, and was employed at Ed Burns, Sonomura, Constructors Hawaii, and lastly with Isemoto Contracting Co. Ltd. as a mason foreman and foreman for the Operating Engineers Local 3, an entertainer for Nā Kaholokula and the Paradise Band, member of the musicians union and a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard.
Visitation 4-6 p.m., Aug. 9, at the Dodo Mortuary chapel. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Casual attire; flowers welcomed.

Paul Anthony Evangelista, 52, of Laupahoehoe, died July 23, 2019, at Hilo Medical Center. Born July 2, 1967, in Hilo, he worked for the Hamakua Sugar Company and Paauilo Slaughter House.

George Kunitake
George Kunitake, 88, of Kona, died April 28, 2019, at Torrance Memorial Medical Center in California. Born in Japan on July 2, 1930, he was a retired stockbroker from Bateman Eichler Hill Richards and a U.S. Army veteran.

Survived by his wife, Grace; daughter, Ann; sister, Emi (Jack) Ura; brother, Ben (Alice) Ohta; two sisters-in-law; one aunt; numerous cousins and extended family.
Hajime Miyamoto
Hajime Miyamoto, 100, of Hilo, died June 12, 2019, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born Oct. 11, 1918, in Pepeekeo, he was a retired experimentalist for the former Hawaii Sugar Planters Association, a U.S. Army World War II veteran, Company G 442nd Regimental Combat Team, and member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin.
Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.
Survived by daughter, Susan (Alvin) Yoshitomi of Aiea, Oahu; brothers, Rodney (Marcelina) Miyamoto of Pahoa, Calvin (Dorothy) Miyamoto of Anaheim, Calif.; sister, Yasue Kawasaki of Hilo; numerous nieces and nephews.
