KAILUA-KONA — Three-quarters of Hawaii Island motorists arrested for suspected DUI last week were nabbed in the Kona District, Hawaii Police said Monday.
In all, police arrested 16 motorists for suspected drunken driving between Jan. 7 and Sunday.
Kona officers arrested 12 drivers while South Hilo and Puna officers arrested two motorists in each district, according to data released Monday by the Hawaii Police Department.
So far this year, there have been 30 DUI arrests compared with 35 during the same period last year, according to police.
No fatalities had been recorded on Hawaii Island’s public roadways through Monday, police said. That was the same case in 2018.
