Francis Kuailani Sr. Scholarship: The Rotary Club of Kona Sunrise is offering two scholarships, each in the amount of $1,000, in recognition of Francis Kuailani Sr., to any West Hawaii high school senior, including those who have been home-schooled. Francis was a long time employee of the U.S. National Park Service and worked for many years at the Kaloko-Honokohau National Historic Park.
Dr Clifford Kopp DDS Scholarship: The Rotary Club of Kona Sunrise is offering two scholarships, each in the amount of $1,000, in recognition of Dr Clifford Kopp DDS., to any West Hawaii high school senior, including those who have been home-schooled. Cliff was a local Prosthodontist and leader of West Hawaii Rotary projects. He was known for his passionate support of the homeless with his circle the island walks to bring awareness to those living among us.
Students applying for these scholarships must be registered in a two or four-year program at any school, college or university with a focus in the fields of biology, geology or ecology. Payment of the scholarship will be made to the college, school or university that the student is registered at and will be submitted in one payment. Two letters of reference are required. At least one should be from a teacher or instructor who can share information regarding the student’s career ambitions.
All scholarship applications will be weighted based on three equal parts: financial need, merit (GPA and test scores) and community service involvement. Applicants must provide either FAFSA or EFC data with the application form. Applications for all scholarships will be accepted from Jan. 10 through Feb. 10. Award notifications will be sent out no later than March 1.
