The following events have been canceled ahead of the impending arrival of Tropical Storm Ana:
The performance slated Friday by the West Hawaii County Band at Hale Halawai in Kailua-Kona has been canceled.
The Mayor’s 2014 Health Fest and Keiki Triathlon slated for Saturday in Kailua-Kona has been canceled.
A Department of Health workshop on unexploded ordnance set for Friday at the Waikoloa Marriott has been canceled.
Due to the storm, Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge is canceling its Saturday Open House event.
In anticipation of the storm, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park will be closed Friday. No back-country permits will be issued after 6 p.m. Thursday. The park’s Kahuku Unit will close the entire weekend, and International Archaeology Day, previously scheduled for Saturday, is canceled and will be rescheduled at a later date. Volcano House and Kilauea Military Camp will remain open to registered guests.
The Ocean Solutions presentation slated for Friday evening at Kalaemano Interpretive Center has been canceled.
Kokolulu Farm and Cancer Retreats Inc. weekend and 6-day intensive program slated Friday through Wednesday is canceled.
Kona Commons has pushed back its fall fashion show to Oct. 25. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
All Big Island libraries will be closed Friday, in advance of the approach of Tropical Storm Ana, state Librarian Richard Burns. In addition, programs at all libraries on all islands scheduled for Saturday have been cancelled.
The state Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Forestry of Wildlife is canceling the following four schedule hunts: the Puuwaawaa feral goat and sheep hunt Saturday and Sunday; the special access cattle control hunt at Puu Oo on Saturday; the black-tailed deer hunt on Saturday and Sunday; and the mouflon sheep rifle hunt on Saturday and Sunday. The Big Island Ukulele Guild’s kanakapila event on Saturday is canceled. It will not be rescheduled. The exhibit at the Wailoa Center will continue through Oct. 30.
Kamehameha Schools announced a number of closures through the weekend. The Hawaii campus in Keaau will be closed Friday through Sunday. Hawaii Island preschools are closed Friday through Sunday. Hawaii Island school or other campus activities are canceled Friday and canceled or rescheduled Saturday and Sunday. Hawaii Island business and community sites are closed Friday through Sunday. School officials will later determine which campuses and businesses will be open on Monday.
The car wash scheduled for Saturday has been postponed. It will be rescheduled for a new date in November yet to be determined. All tickets that were sold will be honored at that time.
The annual White Cane Awareness Walk, hosted Sunday by the National Federation of the Blind West Hawaii Chapter in Kailua-Kona, has been postponed. It will be rescheduled for next month.
Hawaii Preparatory Academy’s Pumpkin Patch Festival, scheduled for Sunday, has been postponed. The event will now be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 26 at the school’s Upper Campus.
