KAILUA-KONA — Twenty-four units at Ulu Wini housing complex have been evacuated due to a brush fire ignited this afternoon behind Koloko Industrial Area.
Hawaii Fire Department responded to the blaze near Hina Lani Street and Ane Keohokalole Highway by Costco sometime around 2:30 p.m.
Hawaii Police are also on scene. According to police officials there are no apparent road closures at this time. The Civil Defense said the fire is under control but to avoid the area. It also said that the gym at Old Kona Airport Park has been set up as a temporary shelter for those evacuated.

It’s the middle of winter and we have a mysterious fire. Spontaneous combustion, arson, fireworks, homeless squatters, kids playing with fire? Another Kona area human-created costly fire, without follow-up, investigation, and prosecution.
