KAILUA-KONA — A 3rd Circuit Court judge issued his second bench warrant on an 18-year-old man accused of class A felony sex offenses who has twice violated his conditions of release on bail.
The warrant for Samuel Latrik was issued Monday after the Hawaii Intake Service Center (HISC) submitted a request to revoke the teen’s bail after violating the conditions of his release when he left his home on two separate occasions without approval while under electronic monitoring.
Latrik was arrested and charged in January with numerous sex assault offenses in connection to the 2016 Old Kona Airport rape case. He is one of two males arrested and charged in the crime. Tyron Sigrah, 17, was the first suspect in the case arrested in November 2017.
Both teens were charged in juvenile court before a judge waived their cases to 3rd Circuit Court where they were charged as adults. Latrik and Sigrah have been out on $25,000 bail for several months.
Electronic monitoring was instated after Latrik was brought to court on a bench warrant on July 31 for not checking in with his social worker. Deputy Prosecutor Sheri Lawson stated in court then that she was opposed to electronic monitoring and requested that bail be increased or revoked.
Since a Marshallese interpreter had not been used during Latrik’s meetings with his social worker, Judge Robert D.S. Kim believed there was a possibility of a communication break down.
On Aug. 10, Kim told Latrik he would only be allowed to leave his home for medical or legal appointments. He was also required to check in with HISC when he left his residence and when he returned. A Marshallese interpreter was present in the courtroom at the time of the instruction.
On Friday, HISC filed its application to revoke bail, recognizance or supervised release. According to the application, Latrik left his home on Aug. 22 at 10:05 p.m. and didn’t return until 4:07 a.m. the next day.
HISC was closed Aug. 23 due to Hurricane Lane and didn’t reopen until Aug. 27. Latrik was warned about the consequences if he didn’t follow the terms of his release.
“The defendant was told if he didn’t not comply with the terms and conditions of his release, the court would be notified and revocation would be submitted,” court documents indicate.
According HISC, Latrik left home again without authorization at 8:36 p.m. on Sept. 5 and returned a couple hours later at 10:42 p.m.
“The defendant is in clear violation of the terms and conditions of release and the terms and conditions of the electronic monitoring,” the court document indicates.
Latrik and Sigrah are accused of beating and raping a woman on the soccer field at Old Kona Airport Park on Sept. 3, 2016. According to the Hawaii Police Department, two boys approached the woman, punched and sexually assaulted her. Police added the boys fled when confronted by an unidentified person.
Sigrah recently pleaded guilty to first-degree sexual assault, second-degree assault and second-degree robbery. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 18.
Latrik is accused of three counts of first-degree sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault, kidnapping, second-degree robbery, first-degree terroristic threatening and third-degree sexual assault. Jury trial is set for Oct. 23.
Will Hawaii ever learn? Criminals are criminals because they DO NOT follow laws and norms of society. Expecting them to do otherwise is foolish.
BOTH of these guys need ti be immediately deported back to the islands they come from and their right or ability to ever return to America be permanently revoked and forever cancelled . They do not deserve to benefit from the Compact for Free Association . Let their island elders deal with them . Maybe they will end up as fish food .
Nah ah! you have to let them do whatever they want or you are mean! (sarc)
Send ’em back to Micronesia. And don’t call me a racist because I am not. Ill save you some time. Let’s just call him a rapist and get on with it.
Kim should revoke bail, one chance too many already.
Someone needs to hold the bleeding liberal heart judge’s feet to the fire, before the Asshats rape another young victim.
Tolerance people…..that is their right as illegals! Freed EBT as well, oh yea free legal counsel.
