“Hostiles” (rated R) will be the adult monthly movie shown from 5 to 7 p.m. this Wednesday. At 1 p.m. Thursday, kids water games will be offered.
For adults, a craft activity will be available from 6 to 7 p.m. June 20, and a “Using the Internet” class will be taught from 10 a.m. to noon June 23 by Dr. Arthur Goshtasby, a recently retired professor of computer science and engineering from Wright State University in Ohio. Specific topics to be covered will be the history of the Internet; setting up a computer for Internet use; searching for information on the Internet; online dictionary, library, newspaper, maps, shopping, banking, radio and television; and setting up and using email.
A hula performance by Muolaulani will begin at 5:30 p.m. June 27. The contemporary Hawaiian dance company showcases hula at its highest art form, led by artistic director and kumu hula Michael Pili Pang. The show will bring to the stage Hawaiian rituals, myths and legends with a contemporary flair to tell the stories of Hawaii and its rich culture. Muolaulani performers have been trained through the dance school Halau Hula Ka No’eau in the style called hula ku’i — a descriptive style that blends traditional hula with Western idioms. Pang and his company have been a leader in Hawaiian dance theatre presentations throughout the United States, Canada, Taiwan and Korea for the past decade.
A special craft class for children will be held at 1 p.m. June 28.
Weekly events include an ohana movie from 1:30 to 3 p.m. every Wednesday for ages 5 and up; a preschool story/craft activity from 10 to 11 a.m. every Thursday; and a Marvel Movie Marathon from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Friday except June 29. “Iron Man 2” and “Thor” will be featured this Friday, and “Avengers” and “Iron Man 3” June 22.
Science Saturdays are held for students in grades 3 through 8 from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturdays now through July 7, except this Saturday, as part of the library’s NASA@My Library program to engage public audiences nationwide in informal and lifelong learning with the excitement of NASA exploration and discovery.
