How to Talk So Kids Will Listen/Parenting Classes are available from 12:30-2 pm. every Tuesday now through July 10 with Cecilia Royale, a care coordinator at Neighborhood Place of Kona. Learn a variety of ways to communicate more positively with children. Each week covers a different topic: Dealing with Feelings, Engaging Cooperation, Alternatives to Punishment, Encouraging Autonomy, Praise and Freedom from Playing Roles. Cancer Support Group for Women will gather from 12:30-2 p.m. Wednesday. Whether a survivor, currently in treatment, recently diagnosed, or coping with the effects of cancer on a loved one, join this group to discover the power of healing through connection with others who share a common bond. Starting this month, this group will meet on the first Wednesday of each month.
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Tools for Wellness and Relaxation led by Kit Hill is available every Friday from 10:30-11 a.m. now through July 20. MBSR was developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. It uses a combination of mindfulness meditation, body awareness and movement to help individuals cultivate awareness and reduce stress. It can also help manage depression, anxiety and chronic pain. Each 30-minute class provides time to review exercises, learn the week’s exercises, share experiences and ask questions. Participants are advised to wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat if possible. Register by calling Tutu’s House at 885-6777.
