Coupon books a boon
I feel differently about KTA coupon books than J.M. Lifschiz. Not only do I appreciate the books, but they are a great benefit to KTA’s business.
1) It gets me to go to the store when I see discounted items that I normally buy. 2) It gets me to try new products. 3) Some of the new recipes they print become family favorites. 4) It makes me wander the store a bit finding other items that I want.
Without the booklet I would not be going in as often and not trying many products. Plus, I hardly ever wander the store aisles so would miss the items on sale that I like to stock up on if I was not shopping for them that trip.
So, KTA, keep printing those booklets. And of course, we never throw them away. We recycle!

Go islandwide with
sewer system
County officials have been pushing for homes and businesses that are now on cesspools to upgrade to septic tanks. How do they think that they are going to handle a large increase in stuff if they can’t handle all of the waste now as pointed out in the West Hawaii Today newspaper article “Dumping conditions irk West Hawaii waste haulers?”
By the way, these county people who work in the Kealakehe Wastewater Treatment Facility where the waste is taken have very good hours; 7-11 a.m. and 12-2 p.m. Plus, they don’t have to answer the phone, return phone messages and require 24-hour appointments for disposal. Well, maybe they’re busy in the field, right.
Either drop the cesspool to septic tank issue or put in an islandwide sewer system with more treatment facilities, like that’s never going to happen.

horse with candidates
Why doesn’t West Hawaii Today print that Sen. Green, Rep. Creagan, and Brenda Ford are all potential candidates?
Not one of them has returned nominating partitions prior to the close of business on Friday, April 6. Sure, they have pulled the papers indicating that they might seek elective offices, but until they submit the papers, they are only potential candidates.
I’m Libertarian Michael Last and I have also pulled papers for Senate, District 3, but I have never declared that I am a candidate. When (and if) I return the nomination papers, I will be the only candidate not to accept funds from anyone. No individuals, no PACS, no nothing. Think about that!

Let’s wait for new
treatment facility
I read with interest the troubles that the sewage haulers are having in trying to finally get rid of their tankfuls of sewage.
Reading between the lines, it appears that the Kealakehe Waste Water Treatment Facility is about maxed out in what it can handle. Assuming this is to be true, it wouldn’t surprise me if some hauler, from time to time, is dumping his load down a lava tube in an attempt to stay in business. I have a partial solution.
As I understand it, the rules to move to septic from cesspool have been mandated by the federal government to the state, which in turn, has ordered the county to make the change over to septic systems. This includes even if someone wants to remodel their home, as at present, they are now mandated to covert to septic from cesspool. Why not install a moratorium on such required conversions until the new waste treatment facility is completed? It certainly beats having the entire system collapse.
