KEAUHOU — Hula enthusiasts gathered Friday at the Sheraton Kona Resort and Spa for the ‘Iolani Luahine Hula Festival and Educational Challenge 2018.
The Iolani Luahine Festival was established in 2003 with a vision to perpetuate the hula. It also serves as a way to honor the memory of Iolani Luahine and her contributions to the preservation of hula and Hawaiian culture.
The day included dance and jewelry workshops followed by hula presentations featuring makuahine and kupuna presentations.
The donation-based donation festival continues today at 1 p.m. and will feature the keiki, opio, wahine and kane, with a craft fair from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
