Ka’u forged ahead in the fourth quarter Thursday for a victory to spoil St. Joseph’s opener at its preseason boys basketball tournament at Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium in Hilo.
Larry Dan Al-Navarro led the Trojans with 13 points, Alexis Alejo added 12 and Brian Gascon and Chance Emmsley-Ah Yee each finished with 10. Ka’u will face Hilo in today’s semifinals at 7:30 p.m.
Mike Silva scored 13 points for the Cardinals, Koa Galves chipped in 12 and Ben Uhlmann had 11. The Cardinals get Kealakehe at 4:30 p.m. today in consolation play.

Hilo 58, Kealakehe 31: Jalen Carvalho scored 22 points and the Vikings’ defense held the Waveriders to only four second-half points in the late game.
Hilo led 27-17 at the intermission; 39-20 at the end of three periods; and then outpointed Kealakehe 19-11 in the fourth quarter.
Collin Lodivero followed Carvalho with eight points. AJ Matsumoto, who came off the bench to spark the Vikings with two 3-pointers in the first half, and Austin Dante each had seven points.
Arthur Freddy and Keanu Tilfas had seven points apiece to lead the Waveriders.
Waiakea 77, Kohala 71
Lucas St. George carried the Warriors to a narrow victory with 33 points. Dillon Rellez added 17 and Calvin Mattos had 11.
Led by Kealen Figueroa and his game-high 26 points, the Cowboys trailed by only point one in the final minute. Mikala Jordan chipped in with 16 points and Justin Agbayani had 14.

Cjay Carvalho tallied 17 points and Shyrone Batin added 13 as the Dragons took control with a 23-point fourth quarter to secure one of the best wins of their preseason.
The Daggers, who led by four at halftime, got 22 points from Joel Rosario and 12 from Tolby Saito.

Nanea Tavares and Kristiana Van Pernis bagged goals to power the Hawaii Prep girls to a 2-1 victory against Heritage High at the Tri-Valley Classic in Danville, Calif.
Tavares scored off a nifty pass from Marlie Mandaguit in the 58th minute, while Van Pernis converted 12 minutes later from about 35 yards out.
