Health care forum slated for Tuesday
Community Enterprises presents a public forum on the Affordable Care Act, often referred to as Obamacare, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Makaeo Events Pavilion at Old Kona Airport Park. This is the second in a two-part series on health care.
Tuesday’s forum will focus on the implementation of the Affordable Care Act and provide information about the Hawaii Health Connector, Hawaii’s marketplace exchange. Tom Matsuda, implementation manager of the Affordable Care Act in Hawaii, and Coral Andrews, executive director of the Hawaii Health Connector, are the main presenters.
The event includes a panel discussion featuring Matsuda, Andrews, Joan Danielly of Kaiser Permanente, Sen. Josh Green and Peter Amelotte of Aloha Insurance Services. The panelists will answer written questions from the audience.
Pupu and beverages will be served.
Police holding Kohala community meeting
The police department will hold a community meeting noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Kohala Intergenerational Center.
The meeting allows the public to meet the police department’s command staff and discuss concerns with the chief and commanders who oversee police operations in the North Kohala District.
This North Kohala event continues the district community meetings, which are rotated throughout the eight police districts on the Big Island. To aid police commanders in focusing on specific concerns, it is requested that participation be limited to people who live or work in the North Kohala District.

Center gets funds for ultrasound machine
A donation to the Pregnancy Center of Kona will cover the cost to purchase a new ultrasound machine.
The donation came from the Knights of Columbus Ultrasound Initiative Program, which provides medically certified pro-life pregnancy centers with the modern technology to monitor the health of babies in utero.
The center’s earlier machine needed to be replaced. The new machine is upgradable and portable.
