Wailoa Arts and Cultural Center’s “Collaborations” juried exhibit opened Aug. 2 with close to 300 people in attendance. Director Codie King and “Collaborations” committee member Trudee Siemann judged the exhibit.
Winners include Norman Negre and Robert Tamura’s “March of the Night Walkers, Downtown Hilo;” “5ingen,” an assemblage by Jim Rhodes, Tobias Kestel, Florian Puschmann, Larry Pollack and Ken Russell; Elizabeth Miller and Misato Mortara’s metal and glass “Crossing the Great Waters;” Karen Mortensen and Ethel Mann’s mixed-media “Small World, Mother Nature, La Mer and Heart Felt;” Jonah Lake and Peter Underwood’s corrugated metal and salvaged wood “Ironic Ascension;” Tai Lake and Gary Eoff’s wood and fiber sculpture “Adze;” “Pineapple Pickers,” an ukulele made by Mark Evans with engraving by John Mydock; “Cultura Basura,” a giclee print by Laura Acevedo and Paulette Holley; “Lost,” a print by Joseph Ruesing and Patrick O’Kiersey; and an abstract painting by Gordon Motta and Patrick O’Kiersey.
A “Spirit of Collaborations” people’s choice award will be presented at the conclusion of the exhibit, Aug. 29.
“Collaborations” features 52 works created by 63 artists. The exhibit is on display from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; noon to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. For more information, call 933-0416.
