LOS ANGELES — One of James Gandolfini’s final films is coming to theaters in September.
“Enough Said,” Nicole Holofcener’s romantic dramedy that stars the late “Sopranos” actor as a romantic lead, will open in limited release on Sept. 20, studio Fox Searchlight said Thursday.
The theatrical release will hit several weeks after the Toronto international Film Festival premiere, announced this week. The film is also considered a likely selection as a sneak preview at the Telluride Film Festival over Labor Day weekend.
For audiences expecting to see a turn similar to Gandolfini’s iconic role as a troubled mob boss, “Enough Said” promises to show a different side of the actor. In the film he plays a sweet, gentle divorced father who begins a new romance with a woman he meets at a party (Julie Louis-Dreyfus). When it turns out she has also recently become friendly with his ex-wife (Catherine Keener), complications ensue.
Gandolfini’s death at age 51 on June 19 while traveling in Rome was met by a huge outpouring of emotion from fans of his work on “The Sopranos,” for which the actor won three Emmy Awards.
Besides “Enough Said,” Gandolfini also completed production before he died on the upcoming crime drama “Animal Rescue,” expected to be released in 2014. In the past year the actor starred in “The Incredible Burt Wonderstone,” “Zero Dark Thirty” and the debut feature film by “Sopranos” creator David Chase, “Not Fade Away.”
