Sue Mailander is the featured artist for June at the newly transformed cooperative Blue Sea Artisans Gallery. Mailander’s colorful, semi-abstract paintings, woodcut prints and collages reference her enjoyment of Hawaii’s lush foliage and sea life. Her woodcuts are traditional in size and presentation, but she moves beyond convention, embellishing the surfaces with embroidery, beads and paint droplets.
Mailander has been a member of Blue Sea Artisans since its inception in December 2009; she was a member of the Kailua Village Artists for 20 years. The gallery will host a reception for Mailander from 1 to 4 p.m. June 15 at its location in the makai building at Kona International Market.
The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday; 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call 329-8000.
