David “Kawika” Marquez, 66, of Honaunau, died April 28, 2013. Born July 17, 1946, in Sacramento, Calif., he moved to Kona to open Tio’s Cafe. He was a community activist and promoter of community projects, served as the president of the Big Island Resource Conservation and Development Council and recently did outreach with Kanaiolowalu. He was active with the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce and the Democratic Party of West Hawaii
A celebration of life will be held at a later date, and a private scattering of ashes.
He is survived by his wife, Jean BevanMarquez, three daughters Diane Manriquez, Judy Marquez and Tammy Marquez; sister Debra Krepp Ohler, of Sacramento; brother Rick Krepp of Sacramento; four grandchildren and eight great-grand children.
