Honolulu artist Jodi Endicott will display her mixed-media water paintings and found-object constructions in “Water … Found,” on exhibit during May at the Kona Frame Shop.
Endicott combines varying viscosities of paint to create her water images. She initiates the canvas with action painting, applying multiple layers of paint. Then she removes what she put down and starts again. This additive and subtractive process results in thick and energetic surfaces that make the paint flow like water.
In the past, Endicott created sculptures of animals and people. “For this presentation, I wanted to try something different and fun. I’ve been exploring ways to incorporate found objects into a two-dimensional plane.” Endicott said.
Endicott’s work has been displayed in solo or group exhibitions in museums and galleries in the United States and Japan, including the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, the Hawaii State Art Museum and the Ferrin Gallery in Pittsfield, Mass. Her work is in public, corporate and private collections, and can also be found at Cedar Street Galleries, Robyn Buntin Gallery and Nohea Gallery at Ward Center on Oahu.
