No injuries were reported after an early morning fire Friday at the Keauhou Surf and Racquet Club condominiums, the Fire Department reported.
Responding to a 1 a.m. alarm, firefighters found heavy smoke coming from under the eaves and a fire located in the attic space of the building. It was reported to be a “challenging fire” because of the location in the attic, complicated by being an older building with a new metal roof placed on wood shingles with purlins and cedar planks providing a lot of combustible material. The roofing was pulled off and the fire extinguished, the department reported.
Damage was estimated at $90,000, according to the Fire Department.
