Derick Neal Mitchell 58, of Kailua-Kona died March 18, 2013. Born Oct. 31, 1954, in Honolulu, he worked as a maintenance supervisor for the Department of Education at Kealakehe Elementary and High schools; worked as an auto body painter and body man at Nimitz Volkswagen, Steffy’s Auto Body, Azama’s Auto Body and Sumida’s Auto Body; worked for VKM enterprises as an underground wiring technician at the Kaneohe Marine Base and Johnson Island; and member of Solid Rock Ministries leading the Men of Destiny program; attended Hope Chapel and was a member of Hawaii Revival Ministries of Kailua-Kona.
Friends may attend a healing service at 6 p.m. April 5 at 73-5560 Olowalu St., Kailua-Kona. On April 6, a memorial and celebration of life bike run will be at 10 a.m. starting at Alii Drive and ending at Alii Drive, with a light lunch to follow. At 6 p.m. April 6, a memorial service and celebration of life service will be held in the upper room above Genco Auto Sales, 73-4820 Kanalani St., Kailua-Kona. Family requests casual attire be worn. He is survived by Darlene Mitchell Kelii of Honolulu; son, Kekoa (Stancey) Mitchell of Kailua-Kona; daughters, Mealaninui (Keone) Mitchell of Honolulu, Lokelani (Cori) Mitchell Oliveros; brothers, Carter (Karen) Mitchell and Lloyd (Julie) Mitchell; sister, Joy Mitchell; six grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
