James Keola Hanoa, 78, of Waiohinu, Ka’u, died Feb. 2, 2013, at his residence. Born on Jan. 25, 1935 in Pahala, he was a retired welder, rancher and horse trainer. He also was a member of the Iron Workers (Union 625), Ka’u Roping & Riding Association, and Naalehu Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Friends may call March 9 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel, where visitation is from 9 to 11 a.m. and the memorial service begins at 11 a.m. The family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.
He is survived by wife, Winifred Hanoa of Waiohinu, Ka’u; son, Pernell (Sophia) Hanoa of Pahala, Ka’u; stepsons, Ralph Palikapu (Lori) Dedman of Hilo, Raymond Wilbur Dedman of Pahala; daughters, Jo-Evan (Frank) Hudoba of Woodbridge, Va.; stepdaughter, Georgia Dods of Waiohinu; sisters, Caroline (Thomas) Hada, Leocardia Gouveia of Hilo; 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
