A 20-year-old Big Island man pleaded guilty Thursday to a variety of drug charges.
Robert Reed, whom police said gave no permanent address when he was arrested in Waimea in January, pleaded guilty to one Class B felony for possessing cocaine, one Class C felony for possessing heroin, one Class C felony for possessing drug paraphernalia and one misdemeanor for possessing marijuana, Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Mike Schlueter said Thursday.
Reed will face up to 18 months in jail. Schlueter said he expected Reed would serve at least a 60-day sentence. The plea agreement will also stipulate Reed must complete a long-term, residential treatment for drug use, Schlueter said.
Reed’s age and his lack of previous criminal charges or convictions were factors in dropping some of the Class A felony charges, Schlueter said.
Police arrested Reed after finding him unresponsive in a Waimea motel room. Police also arrested Kona woman, Jessie Bitton, 22. Police found 166.5 grams of cocaine, 7 ounces of marijuana, paraphernalia associated with the use and distribution of illegal drugs, and $8,900 in cash in the motel room, as well as a small quantity of cocaine residue and 12.1 grams of marijuana in Reed’s vehicle.
